Man Camp

Man Camp is just what it sounds like. Once a year, in September, a group of us get together and shoot guns and bows, ride quads, make fun of eachothers snoring, fish from kayaks, watch football, hang tree stands, drink beer, make fires and eat animals that were killed at some point by one of us.

I prefer to mix it up a bit further and also partake in bicycle riding and photography. I’m not sure if I get more pleasure out of actually riding my bike on these weekend getaways or from being on the receiving end of harassment as to why I would ever ride anything that doesnt have an engine.

Camp is on French Creek. It is close to Cambridge Springs which back in the day was sort of a big thing. And a 100 years prior to that George Washington hung out in the area.

French Creek itself is a bio diverse miracle containing plants and animals that simply arent found in other parts of the country.

The area also boasts this place as well (although we didnt make it there this year).

These “camps” are situated all throughout Pennsylvania. Some are more elaborate than others. Some are strictly for hunting and some are for hunting and fishing. Some are in the mountains and some are in the lower areas. Some are made of brick or wood timbers while some were pulled in on wheels. One thing they all have is a history. If you ever get a chance to experience one just dont forget the cards and a bottle of good whiskey.
